Live Up to Your Name

Is that being shown anywhere? It sounds like such fun, and Kim Nam Gil is somebody I always enjoy seeing. And it’s from tvN, another magical word, but I don’t think it was picked up by Viki or DF?

Maybe they’re working on it… fingers crossed. Come to think of it I wonder if Lee Min Ki’s new show will be picked up?

I don’t see this on DF or Viki, so I’m guessing that people watched it on Kocowa. I gotta say, I don’t like this fracturing of the market, and it’s very hard to figure out what you can see where! I don’t know if Lee Minki’s drama will be on DF or Viki yet, but as it’s tvN I don’t think it’s going to be on Kocowa (which is the major networks only, I believe). I’ve seen that Viki negotiated a deal with Kocowa and if you subscribe at a new premium level you can watch that content on Viki. I can’t keep them all straight!

I wish that Dramabeans would specify which streaming sites are carrying the dramas they write about, don’t you?

thanks Robin. Hmm..as you say..it would be great to know which streaming sites will be showing what. The last thing I want to do is get excited about a drama and face disappointment when it’s not available for watching (at least for me!). I’ve never heard of Kocowa..don’t even know if it’s available in Canada…though if the content is available via Viki that might be the solution. ..then I’ll think about subscribing to Viki too..I’ve hesitated because between Netflix and DF I don’t have that much more time left to watch anything else ….I know you subscribed..how are you finding it?

  I did the original basic subscription to Viki because it wasn’t that expensive and I had gotten tired of seeing the adds when I watched for free, plus there was a good range of content that wasn’t on Dramafever so I felt like I was getting access to different content. My Netflix subscription was really more for “other” stuff, but the fact that it’s now offering Asian drama content is just a bonus. It’s not the new stuff for now, but who knows, that might change as they have funded some Korean productions on tvN.
  
  Kocowa is currently only available as an app on via a conventional web browser (not yet for Smart TVs, nor Roku, etc) and I think it is available only in the US and Canada. I’ve not subscribed to it because I’m just not thrilled with the idea of paying more. The access to see it on Viki bumps up the subscription significantly. Kocowa itself is $8/month, or $96/year, and for comparison Viki standard is $50/year and bumping it up to premium makes that $100/year, which “saves” you a little $$, but is it worth it?
  
  The deciding factors may end up being who gets squeezed and not the what (our wallets). Dramafever is losing out lately on getting the prime new releases. They don’t have the new Lee Jong-suk/Suzy drama, they don’t have some of the new tvN dramas either it seems and they previously had that relationship sewn up. For now I’m going to wait and see and not add to my subscriptions. If that means that I don’t get a chance to see a particular drama of interest or favorite actor, I’ll endure because, as you say, there’s plenty of other stuff out there and only so many hours in the day!

good to know. I just checked it out..saw nothing there that I couldn’t find on Viki or DF. Definitely does not make me want to pay more..maybe it will improve and offer more or at least diverse options…it’s a waiting game I’m sure…
