Robin… have you taken a break?

while the Olympics are on? That’s what I’ve done..I love watching all the different sports though my favourite is the figureskating and I know that the dramas can wait while it’s going on!! The time difference is a bit of an issue of course but it’s manageable..I especially enjoy listening to all the personal stories that come attached to each athlete..though of course the problem there is that I wish EVERYone can win and return home happy!! That’s not reality and many dreams are always shattered but..if they’re young enough they have the next time to look forward to I guess!!

Haha! I was just going to post that I’d taken a little break to watch dramas of a different variety — Olympic atheletes and their trials and tribulations and successes!

I am a sports junky for the oddball events that don’t get televised often, like ski jumping (3 of this year’s male competitors trained at a facility in my home town area, the Norge Ski Club!) and biathlons, and luge… but of course I love figureskating too ❤️

One thing that has been helpful is that I am using the Olympics app for Roku (I got tired of different apps no longer working natively on my increasingly less smart Smart TV and supplement them with the Roku) and I can watch all the things I missed in primetime or just the highlights. Yay! Plus it’s also possible to watch the OBS feed for the figureskating and have a lot less of the fluff (there’s an Aussie female commentator with a US male support commentator) and fewer commercials (bonus!).

Last night was one of those examples of wanting everyone to do well and feeling great when someone has a personal best and feeling bad when (Nathan Chen) others crash and burn. But it’s not like pee wee leagues where everyone gets a trophy, so I just have to content myself with hoping that the judges are fair and the atheletes try hard. So many of those young men are young; how can you feel bad when someone who’s only 19 has an off night? He has a future ahead of him!

I know what you mean…Patrick Chan didn’t do as well as he hoped either..I’ve been switching my watching between CBC and NBC in terms of the figure skating coverage..just cause I like to get different perspectives and more balance..Kurt Browning..our champion from long ago is doing the colour commentary and shows a little bit of wit at times..lol..there are so many new faces ..I stopped following for a while and can see that I’m going to have to educate myself on the present skaters and what better place than at the Olympics? Do you think that the judging has been fair to date?

  From what I’ve seen so far I would say that the judging has been fair, which can be pretty remarkable when you consider how there’s a great deal of subjectivity involved in half of the points awarded! I would not quibble about the results in the pairs, nor in the men’s short programs. The silver medalists in pairs (Chinese) did not look happy with the results but the long faces were more likely due to personal disappointments because they had a few mistakes in their long program and just did not sparkle the way they did in their short program.
  
  Ratings for the Olympics are down though — they don’t have lots of butts in the seats because the primo events are in the daytime in Korea (hey, people work) and they wanted those events in prime time for North American audiences. There has been lots of chatter about how the games are in trouble moving forward. People under 30 are hardly watching at all and audiences over 50 aren’t desirable demographics for advertisers (those snobs — don’t they know we’ve got the $$?).
