quite interesting…Aside from the fact that they treated the Asian staff so poorly, and clearly looked down on the operation from the start (WHY ACQUIRE IT??), but then they shut it down so precipitously because they wanted to reduce liability for unlicensed content?

The whole point of dramafever was that it was legally licensing this content. *scratches head*

I bet its the music in the background of the dramas… when the characters are in a cafe or a bookstore. I doubt the Koreans have ever paid to use those, and even if they had, would it cover rebroadcasting in another country? U.S. copyright laws are tougher than anywhere except a few places like Germany. It’s gotta be that. But was it really cheaper to shut it down rather than pay someone to scour the eps, mute out the bkg and/or pay the copyright holder his fee? Or like everyone else, wait until the copyright holder notices and files a claim, then do it? LOL.

  I think you’ve hit the nail on the head — it has to be music rights at the bottom of this. But also there was talk that WB wanted to set up its own proprietary Hulu-type access vehicle. They shut down a classic movie site too, a la DF, though in that case they gave subscribers at least a month’s notice.

Gosh! Everyone wants to get paid——as they should, but all the technicalities that go into it just seem so asinine! In the end, the viewing public loses…..sigh
