I did check out Encounter a couple of weeks ago. I guess I must be in the mood for the older dramas while I wait for new ones to end. I did have my reservations about it..simply because I couldn’t see that the pairing would work well..While I have no problem seeing Song Hye Kyo as the older, damaged, emotionless heroine (frankly I’ve never really felt any warmth from her in her dramas anyway so this seemed a perfect fit) I just have problems with our hero Park Bo-gum. It’s not only because of his age..and of course that IS one of the obvious obstacles…it’s that to me he seems sooo young..like a little puppy dog with his bright smile and sunny persona..that..while I can totally believe that he would make a difference in her life..it’s hard for me to accept that she would have a romantic interest in him. Like I said..it’s not only because of his age..because there are other actors who are the same age but are able to bring a maturity and intensity to a role that goes far beyond a number but I don’t see it here.
I’ve seen three episodes already and nothing has changed my mind about it really. HE is just too much of a Pollyana and I’m not sure how I’ll react when their relationship moves from friendship to romance..maybe I’ll be surprised but maybe not. The usual wicked mother in laws are here..the usual gossips are here..the usual fight for takeovers are here..but there are unrealistic aspects which just don’t gel for me.
Now there is an actor who has caught my fancy and whom I would have preferred in the main lead (Jang Seung Jo) I’ve seen him before in minor roles and have always remembered him and I think that if he had been cast as the hero I would have bought into this couple alot easier.
I’m not saying that I’ll drop it for now..but I’m not making any promises in future.
