Her Private Life – Series Review

I’m all finished and I’m left with a smile on my face! Sure, the last couple of episodes might not have been necessary since there was hardly any plot advancement, and sure, the last wrinkle seemed unnecessary, but I can indulgently forgive because I truly enjoyed watching our hero shine.

Normally I do not enjoy dramas which resolves relationships so early in the drama..I usually get bored after that but this was the exception to my rule. I so enjoyed their interactions that it didn’t really matter one bit..I could watch him all day..lol..and my memories will all be about him..as per this perfect video which highlights a totally different side which I did not expect. He is usually so solemn and dramatic and unbearably vulnerable..loved seeing this playful, human side of him:

Thank you for keeping your promise Robin!!!

I apologize profusely for doubting you but I have to admit I’m LOVING Her Private Life now..(up to ep 10)! The silliness is behind us and all we have is a delectable couple who sizzles on screen — too sweet for words — in love and not afraid to show it, in love and not afraid to say it.

I even like her alot more. I think she’s awesome in this role because the writers have wisely allowed her to keep those very traits that make her a fangirl into showing them as a woman in love. Why wouldn’t a girl who looks adoringly at an idol not look just as adoringly at the man she loves??? It’s so real and so in character. I take my hat off to them.

I confess that part of my problem was that the idol was so bland that the hysteria made no sense to me..but now I’ve come to see his genuine (almost impossible) sweetness and he just makes me smile — not swoon — just smile, but Ryan Gold… well that’s real idol material… worthy of many screaming fangirls..lol. They’d better give this actor another leading role..pronto..that’s all I can say..he’s been wasted long enough in supporting roles!

First Impressions of “Her Private Life”

I decided to take the plunge on watching this..should anything happen (DF anyone??), besides I couldn’t hold off too long from watching our guy, Kim Jae-Wook in his first starring role where I’m POSITIVE he will finally get the girl!!

Frankly I’m on the fence about her; I don’t dislike her, don’t love her, so she really was a non-factor for me. OK, maybe I’m a bit jealous that she gets to star with all these hunks and gets paid for it..lol..never mind!! So..my sole reason for watching was for him, aka Ryan Gold.

It’s been a pleasure so far to enjoy his presence on my screen and as long as he’s on it..all is good. However..the rest of it has been disappointing so are. I just cannot connect with this silly storyline at all. The fact that a thirtysomething woman is gaga over this very ordinary and blah bland idol is simply silly and I just can’t accept this premis at all..I happily fastforward all these scenes as a sheer waste of time. Sadly that leaves very little left to interest me. I can see that it will improve now that they have more scenes together and I will continue watching just for this reason because I do see chemistry for sure but if it had been anyone else..I would be outta here pronto!! Sometimes you just want to be superficial and enjoy the eye candy you know???

I had to take a peek – first impressions of Her Private Life

I know, I really should wait for this to wrap so we could all enjoy it together, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t wait to see how Kim Jae-wook would do in his first official turn as the male lead in a romance (nary a priest’s collar in sight). I couldn’t wait to see how much chemistry he would have with Park Min-young (who is the Kim Sun-a of her generation, able to have barn-burning chemistry with all her leading men). And I couldn’t wait to see how they would adapt the story of a serious fan-girl and her world. I just had to take a peek!

Let’s just say that after the first 6 episodes I’m very pleased with everything I’ve seen so far. Her Private Life should be called “My” Private Life because it captures both the squees and giggles of harmless fan-girl (and fan-boy) fantasy world and the more obsessive sasaeng side of things too.

Kim Jae-wook has got a few more miles on him than his glorious ‘Waffle Prince’ days but they serve him well. His Ryan Gold has issues, such as painter’s block, and more, so his wary, slightly care-worn face suits the role well. And yes, dear chingu-dul, he does have chemistry with Park Min-young, and she with him. You may have seen photos with the two in what looks like a romantic near-kiss pose… (from an early episode so too soon for spoilers) and yes, it does look like a de-lish moment. Plus, I want to know the paint color they used for his apartment… a yummy, rich mix of cadet and cobalt blues…

Park Min-young and her best gal pal, played by the ever entertaining Park Jin-joo, capture all the fun and enjoyment of having a rich fan-fantasy life, though we’ll all have to admit that they spend a little too much time and money on this pursuit. (Speaking of money, how does Park Min-young’s gallery curator Sung Deok-mi afford those lovely work outfits and Christian Louboutin heels?) Kim Bo-ra is the spoiled rich girl sasaeng side of things, and things get troublesome thanks to her machinations early on in the story.

Ahn Bo-hyun plays the torch-carrying best childhood friend who practically lives with Park Min-young’s parents – so much so that you think he’s her real oppa (and not an Oppa). But there’s a funny judo moment with him and Kim Jae-wook (you may care to watch on repeat) and more with him and Park Jin-joo’s little son.

The show has also managed to include thoughtful moments on alternative romantic preferences without being preachy, and some equally appreciated adult exchanges where feelings are hurt or inappropriate actions taken and thoughtful apologies are made and taken to heart. I am enjoying that aspect of the show almost as much as the funny and romantic moments. And yes, the fan-girling stuff makes me giggle as much as Sung Deok-mi and her pal Lee Seon-joo do!

Me, awaiting “Her Private Life”

Dare I look? Please let it be good! Give Kim Jae-wook the leading man role we’ve always thought he deserved!

Wait! Can it FINALLY be happening?

Has the day come when Kim Jae-wook  is finally being cast as a romantic leading man???

Dramabeans is reporting that he is being considered for a TVN (yeah!!) romcom drama called Her Private Life and I’m super excited about this. He’s been around a while and from the very first moment I’ve always felt that he had the goods to lead a drama but he’s only been given secondary roles at best. In the last couple of years though I’ve felt that he’s finally been noticed – paying the bad guy in Voice and lately starring in a meatier drama as a priest (have no idea how that did though)..be that as it may..finally finally he’s getting his chance! And..his potential love interest is Park Min-young..where did this girl get all the luck..she’s had the most amazing leading men in her dramas hasn’t she??

The synopsis:

Titled ‘Her Private Life‘, the drama tells the comical love story about a girl who is a professional curator with a passion for her work on the outside, but on the inside, she’s a seriously “closeted” K-Pop idol fan! Thanks to her busy work life discovering rising artists as a curator, Park Min Young’s character also operates in secret as the homemaster of a popular idol group member, Si Ahn. Opposite Park Min Young in the role of this “closeted” K-Pop fan, Kim Jae Wook takes on the newly appointed head director of an art museum, a.k.a Park Min Young’s boss. Shortly after being hired as the museum’s director, Kim Jae Wook’s character discovers Park Min Young’s secret, taking a keen interest in her “double-life”.
