Well..that was well worth it for sure! When I finish a drama with a smile on my face that’s a definite winner.
I know that most kdramas are about love..romantic love and everything else is sometimes just “filler” but that’s what I loved about this drama. It was definitely about romantic love (and a really special one at that) but just as importantly it was about other kinds of love as well. Those ducklings stole my heart..they loved each other..they loved their captain..they fell in love with that strange lady from the south and every action showed it.Sure..they didn’t convince me for a moment that they were really genuine hard-nosed soldiers but that was definitely beside the point.
And then there were the female ducklings..every bit as wonderful (though not as cute)..I didn’t expect them to capture my heart at all..at the beginning their roles were not quite even and I didn’t enjoy the sucking up but somewhere along the line they became equal..they supported each other..they defended each other..they really loved each other and they too fell in love with the crazy lady from the south..
But that’s not all..I also came to love Dan’s mom..it seemed like she’d be just another overly ambitious mom pushing her daughter towards a good marriage but in the end we see that she’s just a mom who loves her daughter and worries about her and is willing to let her do was SHE wants to do..awesome.
The only mom who didn’t convince me was our stepmom..I don’t think she was well written..and her conversion to a loving, supportive mom didn’t really do it for me..why did she reject her in the first place? I must have missed that part..
All along I think most of us were trying to imagine how they could achieve a happy ending that would be satisfying..well it was really bittersweet I thought..I love that they both remain forever connected and that they are able to see each other in their Switzerland paradise but really both of them have their lives on hold..they are “alone” for the other 11.5 months of the year..and because they cannot communicate the day will come when one of them won’t show and that will be a terrible day indeed..
A couple in love can be in a world of their own..and our couple prove it over and over and over again..so sweet..and I love how he took ownership of her safety and put on his bodyguard hat..and wasn’t it a blast to see those pests as they tried to fire him..lol?
Manbok strikes again..how ingenious of him to put that mic under her bed..people feel so free to speak their minds when a comatose patient is in bed don’t they?
Our conman is certainly turning on the charm and she’s not resisting. These two are so good for each other..each one drawing those hidden qualities from within. Its kind of sad to think that she’s practically wasted 10 years having an unrequited crush on a man who doesn’t spare her a thought while right beside her she’s got someone who truly sees her for what she is and isn’t afraid to tell her so..unfortunately he’s got lots of baggage that can’t be ignored.
ok..so I ended this episode shouting..”CALL 911..she’s bleeding to death!!!”. I know..I know..it was for effect but I couldn’t enjoy it cause I wanted them to hurry..lol!
Could we be more relieved that Manbok didn’t go back to old habits and actually TOLD about the threat he was under?? That was a nice little manipulation there..I was ready to fall for it while disappointedly shaking my head..so good for him! Also love it that Seri was able to do her part..even more than she expected to do! Shall we hope that her recovery is as miraculous as that of her lover?? If memory serves, he was out taking a dozen goons down the day after surgery….fingers crossed!
Yolette’s comments appended below.
Great episode! First of all..I really love the way Seri is using her money. She’s not just a rich empty headed woman..she’s someone who has worked real hard to get where she is but now..obviously after her time in Korea..she is doubly aware..not only of the power of status and money..she already knew that but of the good it can be used for. We don’t know enough about her previous life but I”m guessing she is a changed woman who wouldn’t relate to the girl she was previously. So..smart girl that she is..I loved it when she went to see those goons and promised them free rent if they worked for her..awesome!
And..all I’m going to say is..Tomato Cultivator..I’m going to use that phrase from now on..I loved it so much..so cute the way they introduced the music from his previous fiasco of a drama too..and earlier on we got to see snippets of Chuno too…
But..of course..the highlight of this episode was the Duckling Reunion with Mom and Dad..wasn’t that the most precious thing in the world..just so heart melting that it just brings a smile to your lips..
I have to say that I really felt for our girl though..walking into an empty home when you never expect to see a loved one again is one of the hardest thing we can ever do and she had not reason to think that they hadn’t left..heavens..they’ve said enough goodbyes to last a life time!
Also reminds me that I really don’t like surprise parties..I will never forget one that we planned many years ago for my mom..everyone pretending to forget so that the surprise would be even better..but what we didn’t think about was the miserable long birthday she had during which she felt abandoned and forgotten..and that surprise party at night did NOT make up for a terrible day.

It was pretty fun seeing our Hyunnie get the “Pretty Woman” treatment, this time with our wildly wealthy heroine flexing her plastic. HOW MANY times have we seen this scenario play out where it’s the poor, unfashionable girl who has to trot out in various outfits for the stoic (but inwardly squealing) man to choose. It was so refreshing! And I love that she bought him one of everything though he might only be in the country for a few more hours and he had warned her so. It brought her so much happiness to shop for him and take care of him.
And he was adorable reading the comments on his video online, too! He’s so easily pleased by compliments hahaha. You would think he’s be used to it by now. The women in North Korea ALSO have eyes, come on.
I have to say, though, that considering Capt. Ri dug through a tunnel for 20 HOURS to get to the South because Se Ri’s life was in danger, how did he leave her side so abruptly without even making alternative arrangements for her protection?? There’s no way Se Ri should be walking around in an empty building and parking garage by herself! She has a security staff, for God’s sake. They couldn’t have assigned one to shadow her? I mean even if it turned out to be useless because our villain had already infiltrated, at least it would show the intention to safeguard her was paramount.
But I have to say this villain perplexes me. He has escaped to the South, where he apparently has extensive connections (given the number of goons who attacked Capt Ri on his behalf) or plenty of money to hire them, yet his only purpose in life appears to be to kill our girl who has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to him!! All this in a bid to get “revenge” on Capt. Ri, a man whose brother he killed FIRST. His motivation is so “how DARE you duck when I throw things at you!” that I have to roll my eyes. Was Captain Ri such a nemesis that he needs to be made to suffer in perpetuity? Isn’t he ALREADY grieving the undeserved loss of his hyung?? Does this villain have no thoughts of just living large (and peacefully) on his ill-gotten gains in freedom and BB-Q Olive Chicken houses? I hope we get some more insight into why he is so deranged and hateful. He makes no sense at all.
Yeah, the ducklings are useless. But we knew they would be. Even Captain Ri’s plan of wandering around until he bumped into her was better than theirs. Hahaha!
It was fun to see Con Man suddenly start to catch feelings for Dan; he was cute. Though I still can’t stand him.
Oh and let’s all thank KitKat for their sponsorship of this episode. Eat a pile of them when you are sad, kids!
You’d think our smart heroine would have a bit more judgement..I mean..she had proof that people she mistrusted have entered her home while she’s gone..so what’s the first thing she should have done?? Change that code for heaven’s sake! It’s not much use doing it now..though it won’t hurt. What was she thinking?
And…finally..a makeover for our guy..because it’s Binnie I endured his Mr. Spock visuals but when I saw the new look I realize how much I’d been suffering all along..hated that hair! He looks so much more handsome and really much younger now don’t you think?? No wonder the saleslady was drooling all over him..lol..he must have presented a lovely sight up close.
The ducklings are cute but they can’t keep wandering all over the place with no purpose..what is their plan? Methinks that they don’t have one and probably at the end of the day it will be they who will need saving and not the other way around. They are definitely running out of money..
I’m loving Dan and Con Man..it’s so nice to see him so insecure ..so unsure of himself..like a breath of fresh air and really he and our heroine are mirror images of each other in a way. Both came in as somewhat flawed individuals who are being changed by the two North Koreans..conveniently so..but I don’t care..I’m a sucker for happy endings and keeping my fingers crossed that we get it. Would it be too much to expect that everyone will live happily ever after..probably yes…
Considering our girl came back from the dead in this episode, I gotta say the hour for the most part was pretty dull for me.
