Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms – Final Impressions

TC is right, 58 episodes is far too long for this drama, but all things considered, I wouldn’t miss it for a minute, if only to be able to enjoy seeing Mark Chao play not one but “3” men who are deeply, passionately in love and his Yehua character gets to indulge in some swoony skinship and serious kissing time.

I got to a point (by about episode 18) where I figured out that I could fast-forward through all scenes involving battles and evil jealous women (Xuan Nu and Su Jin) where they didn’t directly include our lovely couple because it was enough to watch the parts where Yehua and Su Su/Bai Qian are involved in the scenes because the schemes are easy to spot and unnecessary to understanding what’s going on. I did a lot of fast-forwarding because Su Jin gets a lot of screen time.

As I’ve already noted, Mark and Yang Mi look lovely together and have terrific chemistry, plus they have the very best long hair wigs I have ever seen — every little girl’s dream of long, beautiful, tangle-free hair — and watching those lovely locks in action, almost as much a part of the wardrobe as Yehua’s gorgeous black robes or Bai Qian’s floaty confections was a not insignificant part of the fun for me! I’ve had waist-length hair myself and sometimes miss it!

This drama has some pretty advanced dialogue considering China’s censors but maybe it’s because it is a fantasy world… However it only whets the appetites for some and some pretty interesting fan-fiction has sprouted! If you’re curious, check this one out, for example.

No doubt I am going to go back and swoon a little more over some favorite moments of Mark being all a fool for love. It’s not a perfect drama, but it’s definitely worth a long look at him and with liberal fast-forwarding you’ll enjoy it too.

Finished Ten Miles…..

Fortunately, I’ve had a few days off for the Holy Week, so I got to finish this one. And honestly, I was ready for it to end because there were just too many episodes for my taste. They could’ve completed this 18 eps or so less, imho. That being said, I did like this drama! Some of the side characters got a wee bit more air time than I would’ve liked, but I read reviews where some were pretty invested in those side stories—-so I won’t complain, lol….
The hero—-I liked a lot. He was a thinking man, who measured and weighed situations and consequences most thoughtfully. He was quite fair, even though he dropped the ball, once or twice where his beloved was concerned. This man felt deeply though, and I found myself feeling right along with him.
I also liked the heroine, but there were more than a few moments where she got on my nerves, specifically in her 2nd life. She went from fierce and headstrong to weak and simpering, and that period lasted a bit too long for my taste too. It may have not really been that long, actually, but it felt like it. I liked her better when that “period” was over, but she still maintained some of those characteristics that were most annoying. And, I swear, if she said “Ye Hua” one more time, I was ready to throw her butt into the waters ruled by the North god! There was also a relationship, an important one imo, where she was pretty hands off and definitely should not have been, especially when the truth was revealed.
It’s a nice fantasy though, filled with villains and magic and mythical creatures…..and for Mark alone, certainly worth the watch!

Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms… thru ep 10 (no major spoilers)

Wow! Another 70, 000 yrs has passed and everyone still looks great! Lol! What is it with these 2nd Princes’ anyway!?!? Well, at least this one stands up for his woman, and is willing to die for lack of her love. That’s very admirable! The master in new form is a very cold—brrrrr—character! I can only attribute that to lack of his mother’s love. What cruel men these gods are, even Ye Hua’s father! How could he allow such a thing!!!

Bai Qian has grown so much from the early days, and has not deviated one bit from her devotion to her master. I can’t wait till the two meet again, and that cold heart of Ye Hua’s is melted. But again, the gods play cruel games with the fates of each other….

Xuan Nu is still a witch, and I’m sooooo looking forward to that comeuppance—-whenever it arrives! Karma, I’m sure, or I hope, is even sweeter in the spiritual realm???
I’m also liking the “wise” men of this drama. They seem to intervene at exactly the right time, and even manipulate the situation in a good way, of course.

Good drama, well written!!

Ten miles of Peach Blossoms… thru ep 5 (no major spoilers)

This drama is non-stop action thus far, and we’ve got our heroine to thank for that, lol. I don’t understand why she isn’t severely reprimanded for her shenanigans, but I guess it’s because the master is so fond of her/him. If the 2nd prince of the Ghost realm, JinLing, wasn’t such a sniveling weakling, I wouldn’t mind the heroine falling for him. He really is a hottie too, but he’s all over the place with his emotions. I did like his pursual of her initially, but he’s so easily led with his defeatist attitude. Both he and Bai Qian’s childhood friend, Xuan Nu, got what they deserved so far, but I’m sure that they’re both far from done, especially Xuan Nu who is so blinded by her jealousy of Bai Qian.

I’m not seeing enough of the master so far, who’s been in seclusion thanks to the heroine’s high jinks, but his presence is most certainly felt when he makes an appearance.

There’s still so much going on that I’m confused by a few things. Sometimes I’m not sure if what I’m seeing is a flashback or not. Also time is moving by thousands of years very quickly. Like the speed of sound! Enjoying the heck out of it though! I look forward to it!

We need more dramas like this

And btw, animated GIFs work in this site! You upload them like regular images from your hard drive 🙂

Is it any wonder I can’t take my eyes off Mark Chao in this drama?

10 Miles of Peach Blossoms – ep 1 (no spoilers)

I watched the first episode of 10 Miles of Peach Blossoms…

Love the fantasy! I didn’t feel for a moment that it was too OTT for me with its magical premise, and these people look really good for living thousands of years, lol. I like the sprite, spunky heroine, even those there’s no way I would mistake her for being anything other than completely feminine. She’s so delicate of face and form, and “mostly” honorable. Whatever her ultimate intention is here, I believe it’s for good. Struck me funny when she told the master not to lie to her….okay….. The master seems to be a very introspective type of man, but loyal and honorable to a fault. Not like a god of war at all. Seems he’s been hurt, too, cause it shows in his eyes. I’m not sure if he knows the truth about the heroine because what he says about her is far from how he acts toward her. She’s already garnered a special place as his 17th disciple.

Lots of eps though, but I like what I see so far…

Oh, those smiles…

Hands down, the best reason to watch Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms is to see Ye Hua, as played by Mark Chao, and his pure delight in being next to his lady love. Some dedicated individual compiled his many (many) scenes of smiling at her (Yang Mi).

No spoilers, just bliss!

Up next? Dokkaebi (Goblin)?

It’s got to be Gong Yoo. I’ve been salivating at the prospect of a series full of him, much more than I was with Lee Minho. He will be mine, starting maybe tonight, but no later than this weekend!

And I will say that the Yang Mi/Mark Chao drama “Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms” is getting really favorable/swoony comments on some of the recap sites. (Not that I’m looking <cough>).
